Black Patch Park. Foundry Lane Smethwick
Another of the smaller parks. Black Patch borders Smethwick and the Winson Green area of Birmingham.
There has been much debate over the years, on how best to utilise the land.
That a park exists here at all, is due in no small part to the history of the actual land it occupies.
Perhaps this would also account for the minimal features here. Of which. The main ones, as mentioned on the Welcome sign and which divide the park. Are the Hockley Brook and Boundary Brook:

The history of this land is commemorated in the following memorial:

Following on from the memorial. It is said that Henty’s ghost haunts the park, with numerous people having spotted her.
Finally. It wouldn’t be right to end this short post, without mentioning the parks most famous connection. That lays with Charlie Chaplin. I won’t go into the detail here, other than to direct you to the parks Facebook page: “The Friends of Black Patch Park”. Where more on this connection can be found.
Thank you for reading.
In our next post, we’re visiting Lightwoods Park Smethwick.
