Emotions Wheel:- Fear: Nervous – Worried, Anxious 5/6

There are certain people and situations who we encounter, that may play on our nerves, for one reason or another. Then there are those that we are naturally apt to worry and become anxious about – loved ones, for instance. Yet even then, this should never be to such an extent, that we no longer enjoy our own lives.

When we are in a nervous state – feeling worried and anxious. It is our response and not our reaction that is to be focused upon.

The difference, according to the Britannica Dictionary: –

Response: To do something as a reaction to something that has happened or been done.

React:  To behave or change in a particular way when something happens, is said, etc.

The Britanica Dictionary, also states: –

Nervous:
Having or showing feelings of being worried and afraid about what might happen.
Often or easily becoming worried and afraid about what might happen.
Causing someone to feel worried and afraid: making someone nervous.

Worried:
Feeling or showing fear and concern because you think that something bad has happened or could happen.

Anxious:
Afraid or nervous especially about what may happen: feeling anxiety.
Causing or showing fear or nervousness.
Wanting or eager to do or have something very much, especially because of fear or nervousness.

When we are anxious, it is said that we overestimate the likelihood of something happening. In turn, we underestimate our ability to cope in the event of something happening.

This is actually good news! As what all of this means, is we are speculating on possibilities. It also means there is something positive we can do to alleviate our current state.

So, what can we do?
Well. Seeing as we will already be spending time in thought on the situation. Let us do something in direct response to it – whatever “it” may be.

We can do this by assessing what the impact would be if the feared issue were to actually occur. We’re not looking for absolute accuracy here, just take a guess and give it a percentage.

Ask yourself if it has happened before, if so, what did you do to overcome it? Is it a frequent occurrence for you?

Now we will look at coping, in the event of it occurring.
What could you do to reduce its impact upon you? Are there practical steps you can take to improve upon?
Is there anyone you can turn to in such times, that can provide you with support?

Remember. There is always something to be done and everything is constantly changing, so this too will pass.

Naturally. If you are in need of guidance and support. Do not suffer in silence.
