Emotions Wheel

From the outset. The aim of our blog has been to move from the darker side of the discussion into the lighter side. This is continued here, as we begin discussions on topics identified using the Emotions Wheel.

There are many words to describe the emotions we feel and naturally, some are easier to express than others. That can depend on the individuals concerned, who they are communicating with, as well as cultural backgrounds. With that. It is worth mentioning here, that whilst it is not for us to make judgement in any way. The real meaning of the word emotion means: “Energy in Motion.”

Emotions Wheels are made up of three sections:
* Around the centre, there are broad-termed words
* Moving out into the middle-spoked area, those words are further defined.
* Moving to the outer wheel, we get to more specific words.

There are a few variations of the Emotions Wheel. So, it is only right to establish, the one up for discussion here, will be the Junto’s version. Further information can be found on this and more, by visiting: http://www.juntoinstitute.com.

Looking at this particular version from the inner wheel – and moving from dark to light – we see six broad term words, they are: Fear; Anger; Sadness; Surprise; Joy; Love. With those broad term words as our “Themes.”  A move is made towards the outer rim of the wheel into the specific words to be discussed.

For instance. Taking Fear as our theme, this is further defined into five words (middle spokes). Each of those branch off into two more. Therefore, we see there are ten specific words falling under the Fear Theme. It is those words that enable us to address our issues/concerns with more clarity. For example, your fear could be further defined as “Nervous,” or more specifically “Anxious.”

With this in mind. The collective middle spoke area of the wheel has a total of 34 words. It is those words that will become the topics of our discussions as we progress, at one topic each week. So, we have our theme, our topics of discussion and specific words within. That will be the structure as we discuss words within the Junto’s Emotions Wheel.

Next Week, we begin with our themed discussion of Fear.
