Herbs and Nutrition 12/14

Recalling from a very young age. My paternal grandmother – also my parents to some extent, had knowledge of the various herbs and their suitability for ailments, cuts, bruises – and the like. This was common within their generations.

As the youngest in my family. Messing around in the 70’s and trying to copy what the rest of my family were doing. There were plenty of scrapes and bumps to be had – and I had most of them. Like many others at the time, this was my Introduction to how certain plants can assist when you’re out and about. Myself as a kid – for the most part – it was fun and what we couldn’t deal with ourselves, a few visits were spent at the hospital, clinic and Doctor’s Surgery.

We were always out and about. The majority of the time was spent in nature and with little more than our imaginations, we made up our own games using what came to hand.

When you compare that kind of scenario to the society of today, it was very basic – and we loved it! There was absolutely more fun and adventure to be had back then.

Currently. Alongside the topics mentioned within this series. Where time allows, this has been spent through  attending a local allotment plot, in a rediscovery of our herbal friends and various fruits and veg.

Whether it’s seed, bulb, root ball, or young sapling. It’s good to see something you have planted yourself, take shape and grow strong. This is good therapy: working with the hands, being creative and working in and with nature.

This brings us to the kitchen. There hasn’t been much time spent here for some time, due to other commitments. That said, there will soon be further investment made here, by way of new “toys”. As the learning evolves in the garden, so will the creativity in my new hobby – the kitchen.

It is with all of the above in mind, and to add to the toolbox. Research and further study has been entered into the study of Nutrition, by way of a course accredited with the Complimentary Medical Association (CMA). More on this will follow at a later stage.

Whilst grateful for all training received to date. Studies are and always will be ongoing in some form.

Thank you for reading. Next week, we will be discussing: “Discovering Self Help.”
